Deliverable D5.3 – Midterm Environmental Impact Assessment

The TransScale project is pleased to announce the publication of Deliverable D5.3 – Midterm Environmental Impact Assessment, a comprehensive report evaluating the environmental performance and scaling progress of four Circular and Sharing Economy (CSE) initiatives across Denmark, Norway, Latvia, and Poland.

Prepared within Work Package 5, the assessment combines Social Practice Theory and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies to examine how circular initiatives create environmental and social value while expanding their activities and impact. The report builds on the baseline assessment conducted in 2025 and provides an updated analysis of developments achieved during the project period.

The four initiatives analyzed include:

  • Repair Café Denmark (Denmark)
  • Reuse of Furniture Initiative in Asker Municipality (Norway)
  • Nomales (Latvia)
  • Food Sharing Initiative “Długi Stół – The Long Table” (Poland)

The report highlights how different organizational models contribute to waste reduction, resource efficiency, community engagement, and sustainable consumption practices. Despite operating in diverse institutional and cultural contexts, all initiatives demonstrate the potential of Circular and Sharing Economy approaches to support urban sustainability transitions.

A key finding of the assessment is that each initiative follows a unique pathway of scaling. While some expand geographically through replication, others strengthen their impact through institutional integration, stakeholder engagement, and policy influence. Together, they provide valuable insights into how circular practices can be successfully scaled across different regions and governance environments.

The publication of D5.3 represents an important milestone for the TransScale project and contributes to a growing evidence base on the environmental impacts and scaling dynamics of Circular and Sharing Economy initiatives in Europe.
