A research paper supported by the TransScale project is now available in Springer’s open-access book ReShaping the Built Environment through Sustainability and Circularity: Proceedings of ReSBE 2026 International Conference – Volume 2.
The paper, “Barriers and Enablers for Transition to a Circular and Sharing Economy: Building and Construction Materials Circularity in Latvia,” was authored by Inese Mavlutova, Janis Brizga, Dzintra Atstaja, Inga Uvarova, Kristaps Lesinskis and Marija Korabovska. Published on 7 October 2026, it appears on pages 1168–1176.
The study examines the structural, economic, social, technological and regulatory factors shaping the reuse and sharing of construction materials in Latvia. It combines empirical evidence with policy analysis and a literature review to explore barriers to wider adoption.
The findings highlight unclear regulations, limited infrastructure, cost concerns and established disposal habits. The authors identify clearer guidance, economic incentives, digital platforms, accessible reuse centres and stronger stakeholder cooperation as important enablers of change.
Funded by TransScale project F-DUT-2022-0269, the publication contributes to understanding how circular and sharing practices can become more accessible and widely adopted in the construction sector.
